One Million Tiny Plays About Britain

Performed: July 2011

Description

Calderdale Theatre School and Calderdale Music Service present a joint evening of Theatre and Music. Performing a specially selected programme of short plays and music, the older members (aged 15 – 19) of these two organisations have joined together in what they hope will be the first of many future joint ventures. The short plays are mostly drawn from ‘One Million and One Tiny Plays About Britain’ – each one lasting between one and ten minutes. A Wonder Woman and bride-to-be finds herself worse for wear at the end

of a hen night; a funeral director's love of Manchester United proves unhelpful when talking to the bereaved; two overly-vigilant mothers wrestle with their paranoia in the queue for Santa's Grotto...

‘In these snippets of overheard conversations from across the length and breadth of the country, these plays capture the state we're in with humour and pathos and perfect timing. Laugh-out-loud funny, and sometimes heartbreakingly moving, these tiny plays are little windows into other people's lives that reveal the triumphs, disasters, prejudices, horrors and joys of twenty-first-century life.’

Paired with music specially chosen to compliment the mood of the short plays, this was a hugely entertaining evening.
