Friends of CTS

We’re celebrating our 55th anniversary

Calderdale Theatre School has been creating drama and theatre opportunities for  young people in Calderdale since 1968.

We believe that our work is now more important than ever in light of curriculum changes and a reduction in drama opportunities in schools. Through our work, students learn to be creative, work collaboratively and develop confidence. This gives them skills for life and supports wellbeing.

Covering the costs of providing a diverse range of drama activities has become increasingly challenging. A quarter of our students receive assisted places, which cost us £160 each per year. The National Theatre Connections festival gives students the opportunity to work in a professional context. This is not offered by other theatre groups in Calderdale but taking part costs £500 per festival. Performing at the Square Chapel gives students the experience of working on a fully equipped stage. It now costs £880 per night to hire.

Fundraiser

Support us by becoming a Friend

To celebrate our 55th year we are launching the Friends of CTS. You can help us by becoming a Friend and making a regular donation (annual or monthly) or a one-off donation. This will make a real difference to our students and help us to plan for the future.

There are many reasons why you might want to become a Friend. It might be that you, or a member of your family, were a student at CTS and you are grateful for the experiences you had, the skills you learned and the friends you made. It might be that you want the next generation of young people in Calderdale to have those same opportunities.

For us, it’s also a way to remember our brilliant Artistic Director, Gillie Kerrod, whose belief in and commitment to CTS over nearly 40 years was unwavering. We pay tribute to Gillie in everything we do, and continuing to build CTS is one way we can honour her legacy for years into the future.

We appreciate that not everyone can afford to give money, so you can also support us by following us on our social media pages and liking and sharing our posts. If you want to keep in touch with our activities sign up here to receive our newsletter. You can unsubscribe at any time.
