Animal Farm 2019
The Copper Box, Square Chapel, Halifax
June 2019
A powerful dramatisation of Orwell's enduring parable on the perils of totalitarianism. The play was written in 1943/4 when Orwell believed that the Soviet Union had become a brutal dictatorship built upon a cult of personality and enforced by a reign of terror. In the play Old Major becomes a mix of Marx and Lenin, Snowball, a mix of Lenin and Trotsky, and Squealer, Molotov.
Adapted by Sir Peter Hall.
